Save on your Energy Bills
What can suppliers do to help?

We can all make some changes in our life to save on energy, whether it be switching suppliers or the way we use our energy. These changes will not only save use money which is always a bonus but will be better the environment as well. In the last decade the average household uses 50% more energy. although our lifestyles have changed a bit in terms of the appliances we see necessary in our lives; it has not changed that much that we can warrant using this much more energy and spending so much more on our bills.

General changes in our house can save money. If you use energy saving light bulbs instead of the 60W it will save £28 a year. Switching appliances like TV's off instead of leaving then on standby will save £11 a year. Loft installation and draft protectors will save you £220 and altering temperatures on thermostats, washing machines and set heaters on timers will also save you a considerable amount on your energy bills. Energy saving products are also available for purchase like eco plugs, eco kettle and eco alarms.

Each energy supplier also has their own energy saving touch that may help your bills be that bit cheaper. Powergen offer dual fuel saving of £172 if you sign up to "Energyonline Extra saving." When you sign up with Powergen you will receive 4 energy saving light bulbs and a free energy efficiency survey that will help you save energy use. There is also an age concern saving of an extra £47 for older customers who need that extra month in the winter. Powergen's website has energy saving products for sale.

British Gas will also give those customers who sign up to paperless billing, four energy saving bulbs. Paperless billing will save you cash on your bills as well as those little trees. The dual fuel package from British gas will save up to £207 and if you sign up to the online supplier package "Click Energy 4" save £211 with no tie in or cancellation fees. Pay your bills via direct debit and save £63 a year. This winter if you need a new or replacement boiler, British Gas will give you up to £800 free gas for a year if you purchase the boiler with them; this is a huge saving.

npower offers similar discounts with direct debit discounts on gas or electricity bill s for £20 or sign up to dual fuel and save £80 on direct debit payments. Heating  breakdown cover is currently 10% off  for £10.79 per month. This will protect you from any problems you may have with you central heating this season.

In conclusion the best way to save on your energy bills is to insulate you house well, be thrifty with the heating and energy you use and sign up to a supplier that will offer you dual fuel, paperless billing and online disconts.
